EI Champions

Senator Frederick Berry
Champion of Early Intervention Award

Fredrick Berry AwardThe Frederick E. Berry Early Intervention Champion Award was created to honor the legacy of the first Champion of Early Intervention, former Senate Majority Leader Fred Berry.  Senator Berry provided tireless leadership, support and advocacy on behalf of Early Intervention during his 30 year career in the Massachusetts legislature.

With the presentation of this award each year, we ensure that Senator Berry’s legacy lives on and it gives us a chance to recognize the incredible contributions of our legislative champions who keep building on the foundation that Senator Berry built.

Louis L. Kafka
Early Intervention Champions Award

The Louis L. Kafka Early Intervention Champions Award was created to honor Rep. Louis Kafka for his outstanding contributions to the Commonwealth’s Early Intervention system.  Rep. Kafka retired from the Massachusetts Legislature after serving with distinction for 30 years and for being the House Champion for Early Intervention services for all 3 decades of service.

Going forward, distinguished Senators will receive the Frederick E. Berry award and the Louis Kafka Award, named in his honor, will be presented to distinguished Massachusetts Representatives who demonstrate outstanding commitment, advocacy and support for Early Intervention services.

2019 – Colleen McGlynn Moody

The 2019 recipient of the Frederick E. Berry Early Intervention Champion Award is Colleen McGlynn Moody.  Colleen and her family founded the CJ Moody fund in 2009 in memory of her son, Craig Chilsen Moody, Jr. who received Early Intervention services prior to passing at the age of 13 months.  The fund was established to give back to the Early Intervention community.
On behalf of the entire EI community, infants, toddlers, parents and staff, we thank you Colleen McGlynn Moody for your tremendous and tireless commitment and support of the Early Intervention Program statewide.
